the graphics are good, but rather bland play

Not terrible

My suggestions:
- Convert to AS3
- Fix choppy collision detection
- Wider view (rather than just telling the player "there is a gap over there". I like to see said gap)
- Work on animations
- Spacebar also jumps? (I died a few times because of hitting the spacebar instead of up arrow)

One minor bug with the top and bottom hits, other then that works great.
such little size, perhaps add it to a pre-loader?

Wait to publish

This is my first review, yay! But more importantly: this is not really worth you publishing. It looks like there are no levels, no winning, no dieing, no walking off the map, no real point.
Being that this is your first upload however, my main suggestion is that you work on debugging your stuff to a playable fashion, and then let people test it. If you need any help with the code i would be happy to give some advice.
